TRIL Clinic

TRIL Clinic

The TRIL Clinic at St James’s Hospital in Dublin (Ireland) was established in 2007 to gain a deep, holistic understanding of the physical, cognitive and social health of older people.

The work at the Clinic involves:

• exploring the physical, social and psychological dimensions of ageing through comprehensive assessment of a large cohort of older Irish adults
• validating novel technologies for assessment
• providing a well characterised cohort of older adults who work with us on research projects across the centre

summerhill_064_200We use standard medical assessment tools and scales; ranging from hearing and sight tests to a general medical examination, to provide a 360 degree examination of older people.  Our team has also developed its own technologies to help collect novel data that facilitates new assessments. For example, body worn sensors are used to help us analyse gait patterns, so that we can identify a person’s risk of falling. These assessments have helped us explore the physical, social and psychological consequences of ageing in new depth.  We ensure that all technologies and protocols that are developed have medical efficacy.
