Biography
Tim has worked for ten years as a Senior Physicist in the Medical Physics and Bioengineering Department in St. James's Hospital, Dublin. He is a graduate mechanical engineer and has an M.Sc. in the Physical Sciences in Medicine. He has project managed several large scale hospital equipping projects and advises on strategic hospital planning initiatives, optimising the impact of technology on patient care. He has collaborated with Mercer's Institute of Research on Ageing on multidisciplinary projects to identify and explore the issues around assisted living in the ageing population. His current research interests include movement analysis using miniature sensor based devices (shimmer) with an emphasis on variability in gait in older people, and he is a part time lecturer in medical physics and clinical engineering in Trinity College Dublin. Tim has worked with TRIL since its inception, with a focus on integrating and evaluating novel technologies in the clinical research environment.
Prior to joining the Medical Physics Department, Tim worked as a research engineer and metallurgist in the Metals Processing Research Centre, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University College Dublin, conducting industry relevant research in reliability engineering and component failure analysis. He was a member of the Forfas Technology Foresight panel on materials, advising on future sustainable materials and green processing.
